Hash Details!

The Addis Ababa Hash, the highest Hash in Africa (2500 m.), runs every Saturday afternoon, rain or shine, outside the city of Addis Ababa. We meet at 2:00pm in the Hilton Hotel parking lot. Transportation is provided for those without. The average size of the weekly Addis Hash pack ranges from 50-70 runners, with some 250 registered Hashers. The Addis Hash is a “Family Hash”, meaning that we welcome local and expatriate, young and old, female and male runners, as well as walkers. We follow a paper trail laid in the morning by a “Hare”. The actual run, or shorter tail for walkers, lasts some 60 minutes. Weekly Hasher registration is 20 Birr, with Newcomers paying an initial fee of 60 Birr. The Addis Hash uses the cash collected to subsidize drinks and special events.

Addis Hash Calls
On the Trail

On! On! - only to be shouted when following true trail
Are you? - where on earth is the trail?
On In! - home at last and beer!
Mind the crops! - watch where you're putting your big feet.
On Up! - who laid this trail-for mountain goats?
On Down - am I going to die going down the side of this mountain?
Checking! - no, I'm not on paper.
And the best one of all

On In! - the hare's torturing will stop soon and beer is near!
